PRIVATE PRACTICE
Disappearance work in private practice with individuals combines Marcus’ forty-five plus years of experience in a range of movement disciplines and somatic modalities with a conceptual framework grounded in Husserlian Phenomenology and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory.
Neither dance therapy nor psychotherapy, individual work in Disappearance employs what Marcus terms the Sensory Perceptual Encounter to move beyond thinking and the habitual constructions and repetitions of narrative forms. The resultant loosening of the ego’s grip on the self, the purpose of which is to facilitate construction and maintenance of a consistent identity, opens a range of possibilities in creative space; not least of which is the potential to cultivate awareness of moment to moment relational dynamics that underlie subjectivity. Lived experience of the fluidity of the subject in real time is a key component in the development of true agency. To stalk unknowing, and to nurture tolerance of void or the emptiness opposed to which forms differentiate, is to invite into the realm of the possible availability to the magical and the erotic; or in a word, Desire. The tyranny imposed on the subject by the symbolic order responsible for it’s manifestation is, therefore, subtly undermined. The opening implied herein provides the subject with a nearness, in a felt sense, to the Real, the unconditioned and unconditional nature of which informs the subject on the path of movement in the direction of freedom; if not resolution, inoculation against or cure, for suffering.
Individual artistic or therapeutically oriented session work (the soma: body/mind) are available in real time space in Boulder, CO or via Zoom.
